Broadway Tower Charity Run
The Broadway Tower charity race has always been well supported by Tewkesbury. The friendly evening event was started by the popular Day family from outside their front door and it has now grown into a permanent fixture on the calendar for runners far and wide. The original charity was the county Breast Care at Worcester Hospital, this year the proceeds were also donated to The UK Sepsis Trust.
252 runners completed the course on an absolutely glorious sunny evening. This year Tewkesbury had the pleasure of first woman with Shona Crombie-Hicks leading several other contenders to take a commanding win.
Jon Mansfield and Gary Duxbury collected first V50 and V60 respectively. Although Shona was victorious, she had a close run with Jon and lost out over the final few yards – Jon has been absent from training for a month due to injury so he was relived to get the edge.
Gary, on the other hand, was buzzing with good form and was excited to see Natalie Jenks arrive at the start – Natalie has recently returned from a six-week hiatus and has raised eyebrows with some outstanding performances in the Tewkesbury Parkrun, including a great pair of PBs (currently 20:50). Needless to say, Gary was put to the sword.
Mike Bryce ticked off another race without too many hampering niggles, this was his best run this year.
Paul Mason and Carol Cowley are fine tuning their hilly off-roading with thoughts of the Cotswold Way Relay later in the month. For Carol, she was in the FV55 category and settled with 3rd.
In between Paul and Carol finished Paul Booth.
Paul ran very well and displayed good stance in the later stages when most were shattered!
Jon Mansfield 37:16 minutes
Shona Crombie-Hicks 37:27
Natalie Jenks 41:24
Mike Bryce 41:58
Gary Duxbury 42:03
Paul Mason 42:47

Thank you to Barry Cornelius (again) for his stunning action shots.
