Alderton Village 5km

East of Tewkesbury grows the village of Alderton. Their annual charity-driven 5km run has always been popular with the locals and with Tewkesbury Running Club regularly supporting the day. One of last year's spectators who was lucky even to see Jon Mansfield run to victory was Michael Jackson. Michael has found great form this year and his Parkrun performances have been down in the low 20+ minutes, so like many runners who wish to break the 3 hour marathon, the 40 minute 10km, he's aiming to break the 20 minute 5km. Michael made the decision to abstain from the Glos AAA 5km Relays after researching both course profiles - with the Haresfield course more speed sapping, he set his sights on the on Alderton: he ran awesomely, totally smashing the 20 minute mark and pushed hard towards the leaders for a fine 5th place. His time was 19:35 minutes and he joins the Sub20 club.

Sharon Lockley chose to race too and rather than jogging along as she did in Pershore six days previously, she hit this 5k hard and timed 25:04 mins with an excellent 8th place woman and 44th overall from a competitive field. A new PB for Sharon and as a gifted runner, there could be more to come?

Back from his Severn Bridge experience, Cameron Pay entered the Alderton playing fields in 61st place and finished with 26:33 mins. This is one of Cam's best 5km performances and joins his two club mates with personal bests. The race attracted a couple of hundred runners and the Tewkers trio were so rapid, they were posing for photographs before half of the runners had even finished!
