Cardiff Half Marathon 6th October 2019
Cardiff Half Marathon has slowly built itself up to be one of the fastest HM courses in the country over the past decade, so much so that over 20,00 runners finished this years edition. Tewkesbury Running Club had 4 members that were ready for the race.
Simon Crilley has stepped up his training of recent and has been putting in some eye-catching performances on Monday and Wednesday club nights. Simon’s previous best Half Marathon time was 1hr 35mins 29secs from Tewkesbury Half last year and intrigue had gathered before the race as to whether Simon would break the ‘magic sub 1hr 30mins mark’. Setting off at a fast pace, going through the 1st 10K in a rapid 41mins 23secs, Simon was seen striding triumphantly through the finish time in a noteworthy time of 1hr 29mins 6secs.
Tonia Whitebeam was making a return visit to Cardiff after her successful visit in 2018. Having raced to a PB in September in the Great North Run, Tonia was hopefully of another good run around the quick streets of Cardiff. Once again,Tonia was well rewarded after putting in all the miles of training to record another PB of 2hrs 10mins 31secs.
Alison Borley also set off for a successful race in the Cardiff Half having recently run 2hrs 30mins 54secs at Worcester Half a few weeks previous. Alison must have been delighted to successfully dip under the sub 2hr 30mins barrier to record 2hrs 29mins 46secs.
Chris Nicholls has also been successful in the Autumn Half Marathons and he recorded a PB of 1hr 57mins 40secs running under his second claim club of Vegan Runners.
Clarendon Marathon 6th October 2019
After a few off-road training marathons recently, Angie Sadler was undaunted as she took on the famous challenging Clarendon Marathon. This race, now in its 21st year, follows the ancient Clarendon Way tracks and paths from Salisbury to Winchester, with 90% of this route off road.
Angie used all her vast experience to time in with an impressive 4hrs 10mins 5secs, finishing 8th lady and won her age category with ease.
Great Birmingham Run Half Marathon 13th October 2019
Nick Matthews lined in New Street, fit, well trained and ready for the Birmingham Half after a successful recent block of training. Conditions were not great for runners as Birmingham had been subject to lashings of heavy rain well before and during the race. On top of that runners, were throughly confused as they hit the tough mile 8 stage as to what was happening. Unfortunately the organisers had to make a decision to shorten the route due to a 'safety threat' around Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston areas; reducing the distance to around 11 miles. Nevertheless, Nick set off at a very well judged paced run to cross the line after 11 miles in a time of 1hr 23mins 39secs. Nick was feeling so good during the run that he felt he was in sub 1hr 38mins shape for the full HM distance which would have been a PB.
